The Honor V8
isn't the only new product that Huawei has
announced today at its event in China . The smartphone is joined by
the Honor Band A1, a fitness tracker with a twist.
As you'd expect, it's capable of tracking your exercise time, distance
walked or ran, steps taken, calories burnt, as well as the amount and quality
of your sleep (this last function also works for very short naps apparently).
Where the Honor Band A1 stands out from the crowd is in its embedded UV sensor,
which measures the radiation levels around you and recommends you a suitable
sunscreen to use.
That's not something any run of the mill fitness tracker can do, though it
remains to be seen how used this feature will turn out to be. The Honor Band A1
has a LED light through which it notifies you of incoming calls and messages,
and it can also vibrate.
It connects to your iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth 4.2, and it has
a 70 mAh battery. Huawei promises you'll get up to 28 days of standby out of
it. A standard microUSB connector is used for charging.
The band is made out of metal, and it comes with IP57 rating, thus being
dust protected and water resistant up to 1m for up to 30 minutes. It weighs 20g
and can be ordered with silicone or leather straps.
It will be out in China
(in the eight color versions pictured above) on May 25 for CNY 99 ($15, €13)
with the silicone band, and CNY 199 ($30, €26) if you want the leather strap.
